The Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Serebour Quaicoe has stated that the commission is working towards credible polls in December 2024 and has no plans of using the ongoing limited voter registration exercise to rig the elections.
Dr. Serebour added that having an offline voter registration is not new as that was introduced during the 2020 voter registration.
He explained that the farther the registration from the district offices, the weaker the connectivity. He also disclosed that in 2020 EC did about 90 percent offline voters registration.
“I want people to know that offline is part of the registration process. It is not something new. And if you talk of 2020, we did more offline than online. Because the farther you are from the district office, the stronger the difficulty in connectivity. So in 2020, we did about 90% of the registration offline,” he said.

Quaicoe disclosed that Ghana has one of the best biometric verification devices (BVDs) in the world, and Ghanaians will agree with him that the 2020 election was successful.
“Currently, we have one of the best BVDs in the world in terms of speed and determining voters. So, for us, posterity will judge us,” he added.
The NDC has accused the Electoral Commission of attempting to rig the 2024 elections for the NPP. The NDC’s remarks respond to the EC’s acknowledgement of errors in the initial figures released during the Limited Voter Registration Exercise.
The EC corrected these errors and provided accurate regional figures. The NDC has also raised concerns about having poor connectivity only in their stronghold but has registered more people in the Asanste Region.
