Parliament is set to reconvene today May 17, 2024 for an emergency session.
Earlier, The Accra Times had reported about a trigger to the Speaker of Parliament of Ghana by the Majority Leader for an emergency reconvening by the House.
A petition submitted on May 3, 2024 by Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin led to the recall, aiming to address pending government business.
Key government matters, such as approving the President’s newly designated Ministers as recommended in the Thirty-Fourth Report of the Appointments Committee and a motion on a $150 million loan facility, are priority agenda items for the Majority Caucus.

According to the Standing Orders, specifically Article 112(3) and Order 53, a petition signed by at least 15 percent of the House’s members, as submitted by the Majority Leader, can trigger a parliamentary recall.
The house has been on Easter Break since March 20, 2024 and is expected to resume later this month.
