Four more persons have been arrested and put on remand following last week’s collision between the government’s new Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) modern trains and a stationary truck on the Tema-Mpakadan railway line.
Appearing before a High Court on Monday, Kokuo Koudjo, Patrick Kwaku Sosu, Alaza Prosper, and Fiadugbe Emmanuel were charged for abetting the unlawful damage of the new train that was undergoing test-runs on Thursday. This brings to five, the number of persons who have been prosecuted over the incident.

Prosecutors on Monday said the four individuals who have now been remanded were in the same vehicle with the driver of the truck when they were trying to access the railway tracks as a shortcut to Juapong.
“Investigations have disclosed that there is no access route across the railway tracks to the Juapong road. Even if the truck had successfully crossed the railway, a big gutter and a stream to the west side of the railway lines would have prevented the accused persons from joining the Akuse-Juapong road,” Assistant State Attorney Christabel Selma Anafure argued in court.
The case has been adjourned to May 8, to give the police enough time to finalize investigations.
