In excerpts of his speech, the Director of the GFA Foundation, Malcolm Frazier Appeadu, mentioned three main objectives of the prison project.
“The first objective is the donation of the football items and logistics; the other two were the formation of coaching and refereeing training programmes for inmates and officers, and advocacy workshops to sensitize the public and the citizenry on the negative impact of discrimination and stigmatization of prisons and prisoners,” Malcolm Frazier Appeadu said.
He further cautioned the inmates to turn over a new leaf so they do not return to prison again after they are discharged.
Assistant Director of Prisons, Patrick Thomas Seidu, who serves as both the Acting Eastern Regional Commander of Prisons and the Officer-in-Charge of the Nsawam Medium Security Prison, expressed his gratitude to the GFA Foundation for the donations made to both inmates and officers.
He further commended the GFA President, Mr. Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku for developing such a project.
“For thinking about the inmates who are in prison, it’s my prayer that other corporate bodies and organizations will emulate what the GFA Foundation is doing for the less privileged in society”, ADP Seidu added.
The donations ended with a football match between prison officers and inmates of the Nsawam Medium Security.
