Ghanaian Music Band Santrofi Honored by Ghana’s Ambassador in Tokyo

The band delivered a stellar performance of their indigenous highlife tunes, accompanied by satisfying instrumentations on stage

Ghanaian music band Santrofi was duly honoured by Ghana’s ambassador to Japan after an intense and thrilling concert in Tokyo on July 8, 2024.

The highlife band, known for projecting Ghanaian culture through music, was presented with a bouquet of flowers on stage by Genevieve Edna Apaloo, Ghana’s ambassador to Japan, in appreciation of their exhilarating showmanship during their third concert in Tokyo.

The band delivered a stellar performance of their indigenous highlife tunes, accompanied by satisfying instrumentations on stage. Dubbed “Ghana’s ambassadors of culture” by the Japanese, Santrofi promoted the Ghanaian culture by donning traditional Ghanaian attire on stage, while enthralling the Japanese crowd with hits like “Alewa”, “Africa”, “Adwuma”, among others.

The tour which was powered by the Minon company in Japan, started on 25th June, 2024  and will end on 16th July, 2024.   

Santrofi is collective of talented musicians from Ghana led by bassist and vocalist, Emmanuel Ofori. Other members of the band include Bernard Gyamfi (trombone), Dominic Quarchie (guitar, vocals), Prince Larbi (drums, vocals), Robert Koomson (lead vocals, talking drum, guitar), Emmanuel Boakye Agyeman (keyboard, vocals), Nobert Wonkyi Arthur (trumpet, shekere), Victor Nii Amoo (percussion, cowbell).

The band has performed at numerous international festivals and tours, including Roskilde (Denmark), WOMAD (UK), Sines (Portugal), Amsterdam Roots (Netherlands), Paléo (Switzerland), Rio Loco (France), Hiesige & Dosige (Austria), and Jova Beach Festival (Italy), among others.
