The National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has sued media outlets Asaase Radio, ABC News, and their reporters over claims of defamation.
In a court filing that he shared on X on Monday, it said the defendants, including journalists Wilberforce Asare and Michael Afriyie, published defamatory statements when they wrote in a story that he had spent party money to fund a “lavish” Miami trip with his wife.
As I indicated earlier today on @adomtv_Gh I have this afternoon filed a defamation suit against Asaase Radio, ABCNEWS, Wilberforce Asare and one Michael Afriyie over their false publications about my person.
Looking forward to the defendants entering appearance upon service,… pic.twitter.com/qcNTY3q9iT

The filing comes as no surprise as Sammy Gyamfi had earlier today threatened to take legal action.
“But you know what, there are certain things that you allow to pass because of the nature of our jobs and the fact that we cannot find time for certain things. These are some unemployed NPP foot soldiers who have been paid to do that so you cannot even hold them responsible. However, there are some people who will be taking on relative to this matter and the issues will be settled in court,” he said on Adom TV’s Badwam on Monday.
In the lawsuit, he is demanding an apology, a retraction of the publication, and damages in the amount of GH¢10 million.
The suit lists Wilberforce Asare as the first defendant, Asaase Broadcasting Limited as the second defendant, Michael Afriyie as the third defendant, and ABC News as the fourth defendant.
