Plot to Remove IGP: Bagbin Directs Clerk to Send Report to Akufo-Addo

The committee's report, which did not bear the Chairman's signature revealed that the majority of the committee members determined that COP Alex George Mensah, Supt. George Lysander Asare, and Supt. Emmanuel Eric Gyedi had engaged in misconduct, which is a serious offense under Police regulations.

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has instructed the Clerk of Parliament to submit a copy of the report from the ad hoc committee investigating the leaked audio recording regarding the alleged plot to oust the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to President Akufo-Addo for further consideration and potential action.

The committee’s report, which did not bear the Chairman’s signature revealed that the majority of the committee members determined that COP Alex George Mensah, Supt. George Lysander Asare, and Supt. Emmanuel Eric Gyedi had engaged in misconduct, which is a serious offense under Police regulations.

Speaking in Parliament on July 10, 2024, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, said the house has adopted the report and directed the Clerk to submit a copy to President Akufo-Addo, as Chairman of the Police Council, for further action and consideration.

“The report is accordingly adopted. I hereby direct the Clerk to Parliament to make available a copy of this report, which has just been adopted by the house, to His Excellency, the President, as Chairman of the Police Council for any further action deemed necessary,” he said.
