Ghana Armed Forces Condemns Killing of Military Man at Kasoa

The GAF, in a statement released on Wednesday, May 1, said investigations have been launched into the murder of the soldier and that the general public will be informed of the outcome in due course.

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has condemned the killing of Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) Danso Michael, the military man who was shot over a land dispute at Millennium City in Kasoa, the Central Region of Ghana on Tuesday, April 30.

The GAF, in a statement released on Wednesday, May 1, said investigations have been launched into the murder of the soldier and that the general public will be informed of the outcome in due course.

“The general public will be duly informed about the outcome of the investigations in due course,” the press release stated.

The GAF also revealed that initial findings indicate Lance Corporal Danso Michael, the deceased, together with L/Cpl Ametus Matthew accompanied L/Cpl Omar Abdul Rahman to visit a half plot of land he owned that is embroiled in a dispute at Millennium City, Kasoa.

Authorities at the Millennium City Police Station had advised all involved parties to refrain from any activity on the disputed land until the matter was resolved.

“Allegedly, L/Cpl Omar Abdul Rahman was informed some people were working on the land. Accompanied by two of his colleagues – L/Cpl Danso Michael (Deceased) and L/Cpl Ametus Matthew, they visited the land and confirmed the information. L/Cpl Omar Abdul Rahman and his colleagues stopped the people from working and proceeded to the Millennium City Police Station to report the issue,” the release stated.

The acclaimed owner of the land, accompanied by two others believed to be land guards, arrived at the Police Station and confronted the soldiers.

They started firing at the deceased soldier, who was going to park a vehicle at the Police Station.

The police disarmed and arrested the firer after realizing L/Cpl Danso had been hit by the rounds fired.

The body of the deceased soldier has since been deposited at the 37 Military Hospital morgue.

“Whilst at the Police Station, the acclaimed owner of the land arrived with 2 others believed to be land guards and confronted the soldiers during which they started firing at the deceased soldier who was going to park a vehicle at the Police Station. The police disarmed and arrested the firer after realizing L/Cpl Danso had been hit by the rounds fired. The body of the deceased soldier has since been deposited at the 37 Military Hospital morgue,” it added.

The GAF extended condolences to the fallen soldier’s family and pledged to cooperate with the police in ongoing investigations.

GAF reaffirms its commitment to upholding law and order in communities, urging all citizens to peacefully and lawfully resolve land disputes and refrain from engaging in violence to prevent tragedies.

The Ghana Police Service earlier released a presser indicating the arrest of one suspect and assisting in investigations.
