For starters, volunteerism is never an ick, it is in fact a soul-satisfying gesture, done completely out of altruism. For someone who prides himself as a humanitarian and believes in the principle of non-sibi sed aliis, volunteerism is something I strongly recommend for all.
NATIONAL VOLUNTEER DAY
National Volunteer Day (NVDay) is an initiative of the GhanaThink Foundation’s Ghana Volunteer Program. It happens around September 21 – which is the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial holiday in Ghana. NVDay encourages as many people in Ghana to volunteer in an activity to make Ghana better.
THE NEW NORMAL
The COVID pandemic amidst its restriction may hinder many from volunteering physically. This year’s aim is geared towards celebrating people who volunteer in Ghana and also encourage volunteer activities that do not involve a lot of mass public gatherings.
The focus, however, should be on raising funds and other tangibles to support the needy considering how the pandemic has affected many socially and economically.
WANT TO VOLUNTEER???
Think around these Activities; Tutoring in a subject, teaching a particular skill or talent, Blood donation drives, Clean-up exercises Orphanage visits + donation, improving infrastructure, Health screenings & talks etc. For additional guidance, see past #NVDay activities via #NVDay on social media. Many of this year’s activities would be listed on volunteeringh.org.
ACTIVITIES COMING UP ON 21st SEPTEMBER
The hashtag for this year is #NVDay21. More info can be found via the #NVDay hashtag. Activities can happen on other days in September, not only on September 21.
Science Barcamp 2021This year’s Science Barcamp will be held online on 21st September (12noon) under the theme; “Interactive Science; Moving From Research to Practice”. The Science Barcamp will comprise panel discussions, parallel small group conversations and the launch of an online 3D art exhibition that tells of scientific accomplishments in Ghana.
This is organized by GhScientific with GhanaThink Foundation as a partner.
Invited speakers range from media to military personnel, artists to scientists and people who love to have fun with science while teaching and learning.
To top it all off, we will be giving away 5 copies of “Evolution of Science”, a compilation of the artworks that feature in the exhibition and the history which inspired each piece.
