About 62% of Humanity now on Social Media, New Study Reveals

The report, conducted by media monitoring company Meltwater and social media agency We Are Social, indicates a 5.6 percent growth in social media users over the past year, exceeding the 0.9 percent increase in the world's population.

The number of active social media users has risen to more than 5 billion, or about 62.3 percent of humanity, according to a study published Wednesday, January 31.

The report, conducted by media monitoring company Meltwater and social media agency We Are Social, indicates a 5.6 percent growth in social media users over the past year, exceeding the 0.9 percent increase in the world’s population.

Meta’s Facebook stands out as the social network with the highest user count, boasting 2.19 billion users. Following closely are Meta’s Instagram with 1.65 billion users and TikTok with 1.56 billion users.

Compiled by digital consultancy company Kepios, the report acknowledges potential inaccuracies due to automated accounts or individuals using multiple identities. It also highlights that the most searched term on Wikipedia was “ChatGPT,” the AI language model developed by OpenAI.
