Akufo Addo names Kwasi Agyei as acting Controller and Accountant-General

Kwesi Agyei, an experienced Chartered Accountant (ACCA) and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana, assumed office on Monday, April 15, 2024.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has named Kwasi Agyei as the acting Controller and Accountant General following Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem’s resignation.

Kwesi Agyei assumed office on Monday, April 15, 2024.

The handing-over ceremony was held at the Treasury Head Office. The immediate past Controller and Accountant-General, Mr. Kwaning-Bosompem expressed satisfaction with the appointment of a new acting CAG from within the department.

He stated that “this would serve as a motivation for the staff of the Department, that through hard work, dedication and integrity one can rise to the top.”

“Right from top management to the least person,” urging them to give the same support to the new acting CAG, Mr. Agyei,” he added.

Kwaning-Bosompem expressed gratitude to President Akuffo-Addo, the Head of Service and the Chairman of the Public Service Commission, as well as all the department staff, for their unwavering support and the privilege to serve the nation through his tenure at the CAGD.

The new acting CAG, Kwasi Agyei, on his part, expressed his appreciation to Kwaning-Bosompem for his “exceptional leadership, from which he has learnt a lot.”

He also extended his gratitude to President Nana Akuffo Addo and the Minister for Finance, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, for entrusting him with the opportunity to serve the nation in this capacity. Kwasi Agyei emphasized his awareness of the “responsibilities and challenges that lie ahead” in his new role as acting CAG, emphasizing the importance of the support and dedication of all department staff to make his tenure a success.

Kwasi Agyei is an experienced Chartered Accountant (ACCA) and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana. He comes to the office with over 20 years of experience in the public sector. Until he was appointed the new acting CAG, Kwasi Agyei was the Deputy Controller and Accountant-General in charge of the Treasury.

Agyei holds a Master of Science (MSc) Degree in Accounting and Finance and an International Master of Business Administration (MBA). He also holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Degree in Accounting and Economics.

Agyei has served on various boards, including the Ministerial Advisory Board of the Ministry of Finance, the Ghana Road Fund Management Board, and the Railway Development Fund Committee.

He has also held several positions in different organisations, including Director of Finance at the Ministry of Energy, Director of Accounts at the Ministry of Petroleum, Head of Finance at the Food and Drugs Authority, and Chief Treasury Officer at the Ministry of Finance.
