Akufo-Addo Suspends Sekondi-Tadi MCE

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Sekondi-Takoradi in the Western Region, Abdul Mumin Issah, has been suspended by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for engaging in acts of misconduct.

Mr Issah who was driving a Toyota Land-cruiser with registration number GE 5615-20 was alleged to have driven dangerously and carelessly while approaching a police snap check point at the Kwasimintsim Cemetery on Wednesday, 2nd February 2022.

He was charged on three (3) counts of Assault of a public officer, Offensive conduct conducive to breaches of peace and disturbing the peace in a public place contrary to Sections 205, 207 and 298 respectively, of the Criminal and Other Offences Act of 1960, Act 29.

He was also charged for Dangerous driving contrary to Section 1 of Act 683 of 2004 as amended by Act 761 of 2008.

The Takoradi Habour Circuit Court A presided over by his Worship, Michael Kwadwoe Ampadu, however granted the Mayor GHC 100,000 bail with three sureties.

This was after he pleaded not guilty to all three counts of road traffic offenses.

After his release, the President, Nana Akufo-Addo through the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Dan Kwaku Botwe has in a release relieved him of his post pending investigations.

“On the instructions of the president, the Metropolitan Chief Executive for Sekondi-Takoradi Assembly, Mr Abdul-Mumin Issah has been suspended from office with immediate effect pending an inquiry into his encounter with the police on 3 February 2022.”

“Without prejudice to the matter now before court, government takes a very dim view of the comments made by the Metropolitan Chief Executive during his exchanges with the police,” the letter said.

The Western Regional Minister, Kobby Okere-Darko Mensah has been instructed to act as the MCE for the municipality with immediate effect.
