Political activist and social commentator Kwame Obeng Asare, also known as A Plus, has advised the public and residents of Gomoa Central to ignore rumours of vice president Mahamadu Bawumia asking him to withdraw from the Gomoa Central Constituency’s independent candidate race.
A Plus has fiercely refuted these allegations in a video uploaded on X (formerly Twitter), stressing that neither the vice president nor any politicians in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have the power to influence his choice to run for the seat in December 2024. He urged his supporters to dismiss rumours about his withdrawal from the race.
“I have heard rumors about Bawumia speaking to me to step down from contesting as MP. When you hear such reports, ignore them and let’s move on. He is the vice president and the flagbearer of the NPP, I respect him very much but he cannot tell me what to do,” he said in a video circulating online.

He went on to caution NPP members not to use any dirty tricks in Gomoa Central, promising that if they did, they would be humiliated like they were in Assin North.
“I have told a lot of them that if anybody tries to do anything dirty in Gomoa Central, they will be humiliated more than what happened in Assin North,” he said.

A-Plus indicated further that he has taken control of the constituency regardless of the financial resources of the NPP.
“We are in control of the constituency, they can bring all the money in the world but we will still beat them, we want them to attack us so will be more popular and win easily,” he added.
A Plus expressed confidence in winning handily over the current NPP parliamentary candidate, citing his commitment to tackling the issues facing the constituents.
A Plus, known for his outspoken personality, recently announced that he will challenge Naana Eyiah Quansah, the current Gomoa Central member of parliament in the Central Region, in the 2024 general elections
