Bawumia Pledges Flat Tax System Similar to Church Tithe if Elected

Bawumia has already promised tax amnesty for businesses in 2025

Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has announced plans to introduce a flat tax system akin to the church tithe to address Ghana’s complex tax regime.

He made this statement when addressing artisans at Suame magazine in Kumasi during the second day of his campaign in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.

“Ghana, our tax system is problematic, just as businessmen are complaining. So, I want to introduce a new tax system called the flat tax system, which is like the tithe you pay in church. If it is 10%, it is 10% for everyone. By 2025, we will implement this new flat tax system for Ghana,” Dr Bawumia said.

During the interaction the artisans expressed concerns that high port levies and the lack of expansion in the tax net are causing many businesses to fail, urging the government to address these issues.

In response to the issue, Bawumia stated that the introduction of the new flat rate tax system will come with amnesty to all businesses in 2025 if elected in the coming election.

“We will cut off every tax the GRA would have made you pay in 2025 so that we all start from ground zero. Tax amnesty in 2025,” he said.
