The management team of Canadian singer, Celine Dion, has criticised former US president, Donald Trump, for the unauthorised use of Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” at his campaign rally in Bozeman, Montana, on Aug 9, 2024.
On Saturday, Aug 10, 2024, Celine Dion’s team issued a statement on her social media accounts to clarify that she did not officially authorize the use of her song and questioned Trump’s choice of song for the campaign.
“Today, Celine Dion’s management team and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc., became aware of the unauthorized usage of the video, recording, musical performance, and likeness of Celine Dion singing ‘My Heart Will Go On’ at a Donald Trump / JD Vance campaign rally in Montana. In no way is this use authorized, and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use. … And really, THAT song?” the statement read.
Reports indicate that Donald Trump has consistently featured Celine Dion’s iconic hit “My Heart Will Go On” at his campaign rallies since 2023, continuing into 2024.
However, Celine Dion’s management team claimed they only recently became aware of the song’s use, specifically citing its playback at Trump’s rally in Bozeman, Montana, on Friday.
Other artists and bands, including Neil Young, Elton John, Adele, Pharrell Williams, Queen, and Guns N’ Roses, have publicly denounced Donald Trump’s use of their songs at his campaign events.
Some have taken legal action, sending cease and desist letters to demand that their music be removed from Trump’s campaign playlists.
