Central Region: MoMo Vendor Commits Suicide Over Ghc16,000 Debt

According to reports, Kwabena Gideon had been working for his employer in Awutu Akrampa but incurred significant losses totaling Ghc16,000 within a span of two weeks.

A 23-year mobile money merchant vendor in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region has tragically taken his own life due to a Ghc16,000 debt.

According to reports, Kwabena Gideon had been working for his employer in Awutu Akrampa but incurred significant losses totaling Ghc16,000 within a span of two weeks.

Two days before the incident, His employer lodged a complaint with the police alleging that the deceased was unreachable.

A neighbor named Faustina Asare disclosed that Kwabena seemed visibly distressed, on Saturday morning, February 24, 2024, when she spotted him standing behind an unfinished building. Despite noticing his demeanor, she did not engage him further at the time. Approximately an hour later, cries from neighbors alerted her to the discovery of Kwabena’s lifeless body behind the same building.

The tragic incident left behind a grieving family, as Kwabena was married with a one-year-old son. A container believed to have held Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT), a chemical used to kill fish, was found during a subsequent search.

The deceased’s body has been transported to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital for autopsy and preservation, as the police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
