CETAG to Call Off Strike As it Reaches Agreement with Government

CETAG members have been on strike since June, protesting for better working conditions and remuneration packages.

The Colleges of Education Teachers Association (CETAG), is set to call off its strike after successful engagements with the Ministry of Labour and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.

“I am appending my signature to signify the fact that I am committed or the government team is committed to that which we have agreed to in this document,” said Employment and Labour Relations Minister, Ignatius Baffour-Awuah at a meeting today, where a Memorandum of Understanding  (MoU) was signed.

Its representative at today’s meeting told journalists that a decision would be made by the association’s leadership later tomorrow, signaling that academic activities would resume in all 46 colleges of education.

“The issues of year-round work, the de-freezing of July salaries, and the payment of August salaries have been addressed. Based on my experience, it wouldn’t be wise for CETAG to continue the strike. We plan to convey the details of our discussions to the council, and by tomorrow, we should have a resolution, as we can’t remain on strike indefinitely,” said Maxwell Bunu, CETAG’s National Trustee.
