Coronavirus: About 30,000 samples more tested in Ghana since Sunday

The Head of Virology Department of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR), Professor William Ampofo, has said about 30,000 samples have been tested in the past two days, in addition to the total number of tested samples disclosed by the President, in his 7th COVID-19 address to the nation.
He said the leading research facilities involved in the testing of COVID-19 samples, including Noguchi and the Kumasi Center for Collaborative Research (KCCR), have in place an improved method and staff to test over as many samples as possible.
He explained, for example, that about four types of specimen are adopted to collect samples from potential cases of coronavirus, which are subjected to an efficiently defined method at the lab to test the samples as they arrive.
Also, Prof. Ampofo indicated that the required equipment are available to enable them to carryout the testing of the samples as have been continuously announced, subject to the use of policy control tests, among others.
