From the rich history to the beautiful landscapes and unbeatable vibes, Ghana and its people are garnering international recognition and praise; and with March being Ghana Month, we’ve decided to highlight ten reasons why you should be proud to be a Ghanaian.

Ghana has a diverse and vibrant cultural heritage, with a history that includes ancient empires, traditional festivals, and unique customs. Ghanaians can take pride in their rich cultural identity by enjoying and participating in the numerous festivals, events and daily routines that emphasize their roots.
2. Warm Hospitality
Ghanaians are known for their peaceful personalities and hospitality. The country is often referred to as the “Gateway to West Africa,” and visitors often praise the warmth and welcoming nature of the people. Having initiatives like “Year of Return (2019)” and even offering free land to the African Diaspora, Ghana is leading in the efforts to unify the diaspora globally and support Pan-Africanism.

3. Political Stability
Ghana has a relatively stable political environment compared to some other African nations. The country has a strong democratic tradition, with peaceful transitions of power, contributing to a stable society. It is one of the few countries in Africa that has never had a civil war in more than 60 years.
4. Independence Trailblazer
Ghana was the first African nation to gain independence from colonial rule in 1957. The achievement led to a wave of decolonization across the continent, making Ghana a symbol of liberation and self-determination. If that’s not something to brag about, I don’t know what is.

Ghanaian cuisine is flavorful and diverse, with dishes like Jollof Rice, Waakye, and Fufu gaining international recognition. Ghanaians can take pride in their unique and delicious culinary offerings.
7. Birthplace of Visionaries
Ghana breeds legends and global change agents. From the notable Kwame Nkrumah who led us to independence, to Secretary-General of the United Nations Kofi Anan, to Queen Mother and warrior Yaa Asantwaa who led a rebellion against British colonialism, to Abedi Pele, one of the greatest footballers in the nation’s history, and even Hiplife Pioneer Reggie Rockstone, the list goes on even into our present day, and I’m sure it will continue to grow.
8. Educational Achievements
Ghana places a strong emphasis on education, and the country has made significant strides in improving literacy rates and access to education. One of these strides includes free education for primary and secondary students. Ghanaian scholars and intellectuals contribute to the global academic community.
9. Sports Achievements
Ghanaians have made a mark in international sports, particularly in football (soccer). The national football team, the Black Stars, has a strong reputation, and individual footballers such as Asamoah Gyan, Michael Essien, and Samuel Kuffour to name a few have excelled in various sporting disciplines.
10. Peacekeeping Contributions
Ghana has a history of contributing to international peacekeeping efforts. The Ghana Armed Forces have been involved in United Nations peacekeeping missions, showcasing the country’s commitment to global peace and security.
