DreamWorks Reveals Date for Shrek 5’s Grand Return

The first Shrek film which was released in 2001, grossed $487 million worldwide and established DreamWorks as one of the giants in animation

The animation studio behind one of the most iconic motion pictures to ever grace television screens, DreamWorks, has announced the release date for the much-awaited fifth installment of “Shrek.”

The announcement was made via the studio’s Instagram page, where they revealed that Shrek 5 would be released on July 1, 2026. In addition, the original cast, who voiced the main characters like Shrek (Mike Myers), Donkey (Eddie Murphy), Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz), would reprise their roles in the upcoming film. It’s however unknown if Antonio Banderas would return to voice Puss in Boots.

The first Shrek film which was released in 2001, grossed $487 million worldwide and established DreamWorks as one of the giants in animation. The studio followed up with Shrek 2 (2004), Shrek the Third (2007), and Shrek Forever After (2010). The series also spawned two spin-offs, Puss in Boots (2011) and its sequel, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022). 

DreamWorks Animation Studios formerly known as DreamWorks SKG, is a US animation studio under Universal Pictures and NBCUniversal. The studio is known for producing popular animations like “How to Train your Dragon”, “Kung Fu Panda”, “Madagascar”, “The Boss Baby”, “MegaMind” and “The Croods.”
