Ghana’s pro-Pan Africanist group, the Economic Fighters League (EFL), has endorsed calls by New Force Leader Nana Kwame Bediako for a single African currency.
Bediako, a businessman popularly known as “Cheddar” or “Freedom Jacob Caesar,” is making his first appearance on the political scene, by choosing to contest as an independent candidate in the elections later in December.

In an April 19 interview with Star FM’s Bola Ray, he said he wants to use a single African currency to unite the continent’s 54 nations, as has been previously espoused by Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah, and at some point the African Union.

“I believe that I am not going to use the word unity to convince people to unite Africa. I think it is a currency that I am going to use to unite the continent. I am the one that will break that currency, that currency that will have a value that does not depreciate. The kind of currency that does not cause inflation or distort the economy. The kind of currency that will be patched with gold,” he said in that interview.
It is this firebrand message, that has had the EFL throw its support behind Nana Bediako.
“We recognise that Nana Kwame Bediako is the only presidential aspirant in the upcoming Ghanaian elections to present a clear Pan-African objective and a viable solution to the nation’s long-standing currency crisis. We endorse his proposal wholeheartedly,” the EFL said in a statement on Monday.
