The Ghana Police Service has invited the MP for the Kwadaso constituency, Dr Kingsley Nyarko, and two temporal staff of the Electoral Commission (EC) for questioning, as it investigates alleged bribery from the Ejisu by-election that took place on Tuesday.
The MP was captured on video handing over an envelope suspected to be “bribes” to the staff involved. But when the public raised questions about the incident, he issued a statement saying the content of the envelope was meant to cover their lunch as he only did so in good faith.
“The officers indicated that the process was smooth but at that time their food had not been delivered. I must state unequivocally, and in all honesty that, the gesture shown by me to the electoral officers was with good intent, and not to bribe nor influence them to act contrary to their conscience, conviction and character,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

Meanwhile, police say they are investigating the matter with the EC, as attempting to bribe or bribing officials at an election is illegal.
