Election 2024: Alan Promises to Establish Special Taskforce to Regulate Foreign Retailers

Movement for Change leader, Alan Kyerematen has promised Ghana’s Traders Association to establish a dedicated Task Force to intervene in regulating the involvement of foreign retailers in local trade.

At a meeting with the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) this week, Mr. Kyerematen outlined what he called a battle plan for safeguarding local businesses and fueling economic development.

“This Task Force will rigorously enforce laws regulating foreign involvement in local trade, ensuring the protection and prosperity of our local businesses,” he wrote on X.

Kyerematen’s intervention may not be a first, since as a former minister of trade under the current administration, his ministry tried many times, using the taskforce solution to quell trade wars between local traders and foreign retailers, particularly those in the Nigerian community. But then the clashes have also been a recurring problem.
