Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has revealed his intention to reintroduce road tolls to fix deplorable roads if he is elected president in the upcoming election.
The flagbearer revealed this during a campaign tour in the Volta region while addressing concerns from the people about the condition of the roads in the region.
Bawumia said the government lacks funds for infrastructure development and suggested that innovative measures, such as reintroducing road tolls, would significantly help address the issue.
“Let us go back to a system of broad-based road tolls. The tolling system has to come back, and I think it will come back. It is a fundamental mistake of the government to place all road projects on the budget. The government doesn’t have enough money, and the private sector has to be brought in,” Bawumia said.

Bawumia also outlined his vision to boost the agriculture sector, ensure power efficiency, and formally recognize the church for its role in national development by providing necessary support to foster its growth.
Chairman of the Christian Council in the Volta Region, Rev. Seth Mawutor, added his voice by encouraging Ghanaians and politicians to be guided to ensure peace before, during, and after the elections.
