The Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has reaffirmed his commitment to his party’s initiative of establishing a university in each region across the country. He has therefore announced that the six newly formed regions, initiated during the tenure of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), would be the primary focus areas for this endeavor.
At a Town Hall Meeting in Jasikan, in the Oti Region, the former President underscored the NDC’s track record of ensuring access to higher education by establishing universities in all ten regions during its administration.

“It has always been the policy of the NDC to build a university in every region. So under Prof. Mills, we built universities in regions that did not have. We built one in the Volta, Eastern, and Brong Ahafo. In the 2020 manifesto of the NDC, there was a promise to build universities in the newly created Regions,” he said.
Mahama’s meeting with townfolks and chiefs forms part of a number of campaign tours dubbed ‘Building Ghana Tour.’ The tours started last November, continuing into this year until the December polls.
He has so far campaigned in 15 of the 16 regions, making several promises – from discussions on the 24-hour economy, and job creation, to building infrastructure such as airports and scrapping unpopular taxes like the E-levy.
