The Office of Special Prosecutor (OSP) says it would deploy its covert and investigation operatives throughout the country before, during, and after the elections to monitor possible incidents of election fraud and corruption.
Announcing in its half-yearly report released on Thursday, July 11, the OSP said it would be living up to its anti-corruption mandate by preventing and repressing corruption, fraud, and unfair practices in the upcoming polls.
“On this score, the public is further admonished that, by operation of law, a person who is found liable for any of these acts shall be banned from voting at a public election for a period of seven(7) years and that person cannot hold a public office or be eligible for election as the President or a Member of Parliament,” the report signed by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng said.
This would not be the first time the OSP has taken an interest in corrupt practices with electoral activities. Last year for instance, when vote-buying became widespread at the NPP Parliamentary elections in Orphaned Constituencies, the OSP issued a wanted persons list for six persons caught on camera trying to bribe voters. But since then, nothing more has been heard of that investigation, and neither is it mentioned in the half-yearly report released today.
