The Ashanti Region might become a new industrial city according to Movement for Change leader, Alan Kyerematen, if he wins and becomes president after the December general elections.
Mr. Kyerematen at the launch of his “Great Transformational Plan (GTP)”- an ambitious policy document that is essentially his manifesto – said he would make the Ashanti Region (which is where he comes from) the showpiece of the whole continent of Africa.
“Ghana, we are now going to establish a new industrial city in Ashanti Region. It is going to become the new manufacturing hub of West Africa,” he said on Monday comparing how Asian countries are hailed for industrialisation and want the same for Ghana.
A former trade minister under the ruling government, Kyerematen has said he wants to build a government of “national unity” and has touted his GTP as the blueprint for that agenda.
