Elon Musk Relocates Businesses to Texas, Criticizing California’s ‘Woke’ Agenda

Elon Musk is relocating the headquarters of SpaceX and X (formerly Twitter) from California to Texas over California's new gender identity law

Texas is set to become the new hub for Elon Musk’s businesses, with the entrepreneur announcing plans to relocate the headquarters of SpaceX and X (formerly Twitter) from California.

Musk took to his X on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, to make this announcement.

This move follows California’s introduction of a law prohibiting schools from informing parents about changes to a student’s gender identity, a decision that has sparked controversy.

“This is the final straw. Because of this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies, SpaceX will now move its HQ from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas,” Musk said. “And 𝕏 HQ will move to Austin,” he added in a separate post.

On Monday, July 15, 2024, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed the controversial bill into law to end a protracted legislative battle between advocates for parental rights and LGBTQ supporters.

The new law overturned decisions made by conservative school districts, which had directed teachers to inform parents of changes to a student’s name, pronouns, or gender identity.

Musk, a critic of gender identity policies, has previously threatened to relocate X from its San Francisco base to Austin, a move that will now come to fruition. This development comes after Musk successfully transferred Tesla’s headquarters from Palo Alto to Austin, solidifying Texas’ position as a key hub for his business empire.

He has also been an outspoken critic of the use of preferred pronouns, using social media to express his disdain and dismissing the practice as part of a “woke” agenda that poses a threat to societal norms.

The legislation will now protect vulnerable students from potential discrimination and harm, according to LGBTQ advocates. However, opponents argue that it undermines parental rights and fails to acknowledge the importance of parental involvement in their children’s lives.

Newsom is seen as a potential successor to Joe Biden, a future presidential candidate, by his party (Democrats), as he has often disagreed with conservatives on gender policies in schools.

He signed a law last year that requires school districts to include LGBTQ people and other marginalized groups in textbooks.

As a result, he has support from the LGBTQ rights community, but some people disagree with his approach to doing things.
