The former President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has passed away at the age of 77.
His death was confirmed by a close associate who served as his right-hand man during his tenure as CAF President, marking the end of an era for the continent’s longest-serving football leader.
He passed away on Thursday in Paris, reported Cameroon media
Issa Hayatou led CAF as President for 29 years, until his departure in March 2017, when Ahmad Ahmad took the reins.

He also served as FIFA interim President from October 2015 to February 2016 following Sepp Blatter’s suspension.
Under his watch, the FIFA elections were held, resulting in the election of Gianni Infantino as the new president. Hayatou’s CAF presidency saw the expansion of the Africa Cup of Nations, more African teams in the World Cup, and improved football infrastructure across the continent.
