Ghana’s Under-20 national football team, known as the Black Satellites, is all set to begin their campaign in the 13th African Games against Congo at the Accra Sports Stadium Today, March 8, 2023, at 3:00 PM UTC.
Despite the dissatisfaction with the Black Stars’ performance at the recently concluded African Cup of Nations (AFCON), the junior side aims to reignite the spirit of Ghanaian football by securing victory in the tournament.
The Satellites tasted success in this competition in 2011 under the guidance of Coach Kwesi Appiah, and they are eager to claim their second title under newly appointed coach Desmond Ofei. Ahead of their opening match, Coach Ofei expressed confidence in his team’s readiness and hunger for success.
“We are not under pressure, we are fully prepared, and our boys are hungry, so there is no pressure on us. We are just focused on progressing game after game,” he said in a press conference.

The 13th African Games provides an opportunity for Ghana to showcase its football prowess on the continental stage, and Coach Ofei emphasized the team’s determination to give their all and increase their chances of qualifying for the next stage of the competition.
Captain Kuffour Asamoah echoed the coach’s sentiments and expressed confidence in the team’s ability to overcome any challenges and bring the trophy home. He urged Ghanaians to rally behind the Satellites as they embark on their “host and win” mission.
In their last tie-break, Ghana failed to advance from the group stages after suffering a defeat to Mali. However, with renewed vigor and determination, the team is ready to face Congo in their opening match and subsequently take on Gambia and Benin in Group A.
