Ghana Welcomes Visitors with Visa On Arrival For Festive Season

The unveiling of the Non-Pre Approval Visa on Arrival program represents a pivotal step towards advancing Ghana's tourism industry

Ghana invites visitors to join the festive season with no visa hassle. From December 1st, 2023, to January 15th, 2024, visitors can get a visa on arrival at the airport, without applying beforehand. This is part of the ‘December in GH’ campaign, which celebrates Ghana’s culture and events as part of the ‘Beyond the Return’ initiative. The initiative is a 10-year plan to connect Ghana with its global family.

The origins of this initiative trace back to the renowned “Year of Return” in 2019, which left an indelible mark on Ghana’s tourism landscape. The Year of Return commemorated the 400th anniversary of the arrival of enslaved Africans in America, inviting the global African diaspora to reconnect with their roots in Ghana. The year-long celebration witnessed an influx of tourists and returnees from diverse backgrounds, fostering a sense of belonging and rekindling cultural bonds.

Building upon the success of the Year of Return, the ‘Beyond the Return’ initiative emerged, aiming to sustain and expand the connections forged in 2019. It served as a platform to attract not only tourists but also investors, promoting Ghana as a preferred destination for cultural exploration and economic opportunities.
