Ghana’s Bozoma Saint John Becomes Netflix’s New Chief Marketing Officer

Seasoned Ghanaian marketing guru, Bozoma Saint John, has been appointed as the Chief Marketing Officer by U.S streaming giant, Netflix.

The company announced her appointment this week. Saint John, who has been vocal about inequality in corporate America, joins from entertainment and talent agency Endeavor where she was head of marketing since 2008, CNBC reported.

She replaces Jackie Lee-Joe, the one-time CMO of BBC studios who exited the position due to personal reasons. He served for 10 months.

“I’m thrilled to join Netflix, especially at a time when storytelling is critical to our global, societal well-being,” Saint John said in a statement. “I feel honored to contribute my experience to an already dynamic legacy, and to continue driving engagement in the future.”

Her appointment comes at a time as global brands, especially in the U.S are looking to diversify their workplace.

With over 20 years of experience in music marketing and entertainment, Saint John’s two years at CMO of Endeavour saw her consolidate the company’s marketing efforts for divisions including WME, ING, UFC, Professional Bull Riders and Miss Universe, according to Variety.

Prior to Endeavour, Saint John served as Chief Brand Officer at Uber Technologies after serving as head of consumer marketing for Apple Music and iTunes.

“As we bring more great stories to our members around the world, she’ll define and lead our next exciting phase of creativity and connection with consumers.”

Born in the U.S. to Ghanaian parents, Rev. Dr. Appianda Arthur and Aba Arthur, Saint John moved to Ghana at 6 months before a final move back to the U.S at age 12.
