Ghanaian light heavyweight boxer, Jonathan Tetteh also known as ‘Worldwide’, has been disqualified from the 2024 Olympic Boxing World Qualifiers due to weight-related issues.
Tetteh, competing in the lightweight category, found himself excluded from the preliminaries after failing to meet the prescribed weight threshold. While the requirement stipulated a maximum weight of 80kg, Tetteh’s scale tipped slightly higher at 80.60 kg, leading to his disqualification.
The unfortunate turn of events granted Tetteh’s German counterpart, Schumann Kevin Boakye, a walkover into the next round, as Tetteh’s ineligibility left the ring vacant for advancement.
Despite this setback, Ghana’s presence in the Olympic boxing qualifiers remains notable, with four other boxers vying for coveted spots at this year’s Olympics.
