Ghana’s Performance Tracker Goes Beyond Infrastructure, Says Oppong Nkrumah

Minister of State for Works & Housing, Kojo Opppong Nkrumah says the newly launched platform to check the performance of government projects goes beyond the listing of those projects.

Speaking at the launch of the ‘Performance Tracker’ a flagship tool that has been touted as this government’s way of staying accountable to the public, Oppong Nkrumah said the platform holds data not just on various ministries and agencies, as it also includes projects by all 261 district assemblies.

“This tracker goes beyond infrastructure and features 22 thematic areas that we often query for information. 28 ministries and the office of government machinery are accounted for. So you can query by ministry and find for yourself what exists there,” he said during a presentation at the official launch held at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) on Wednesday.

According to the government, the tracker builds on the foundation laid by the Delivery Tracker introduced by Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in 2020. For this performance tracker, Oppong Nkrumah said covers over 13,000 projects that his government introduced since it took office in 2017.

“The performance tracker is a database that showcases the performances of the government of Ghana and it is going to show you the various projects that have been executed across the country,” he said.

But despite the government’s praise of its performance on infrastructure, there’ve been reports about abandoned projects, including some of its flagship projects such as the One District and One Factory (1D1F).
