The 2024 edition of the Green Ghana Day which is slated for June 7, 2024, under the theme ‘Growing for a Greener Tomorrow’ has been launched by The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu.
The launch forms part of the Government’s ongoing efforts to restore Ghana’s forest cover while combating the far-reaching impacts of climate change.
The project aims at planting ten million trees nationwide, with the Northern Region contributing 600,000 trees across its territory.
In his address at the function, the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu, stressed the need for environmental sustainability and the collective responsibility of all to protect the planet for future generations.

He disclosed that since the inception of the project in 2021, the Northern Region has witnessed some remarkable progress in economic, social, and environmental benefits with regard to environmental conservation.
The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, expressed regret at the alarming rate of forest loss in the past and pointed out the government’s aggressive afforestation and reforestation programs to keep the forests intact.
Naa Bapra Zangbalun Lan Yakubu Mahama speaking on behalf of the Overlord of Dagbon, appealed to Dagbon chiefs to actively participate in the Green Ghana Day initiative, signify a united front towards a greener and more sustainable future.
