I will change lives of slum dwellers in Ayawaso West Wuogon when I become MP – John Dumelo

NDC Parliamentary Candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, John Dumelo has promised to change the lives of slum dwellers in his constituency if he is given the nod to represent them in Parliament.

According to him, constituents need to be provided with life-changing opportunities to help them progress significantly in life and make a living.

In a digital conversation on Thursday, May 14, 2020, the actor-turned-politician debunked claims that the constituency holds more elite people, adding that several residents struggle to make ends meet.

“I’m there for everybody but I’m there for the people in the slums and so the truth of the matter is that when I win the seat all those living in the slums would have equal opportunity to be able to progress in life…so in my conversations with the people I tell them that when I become Member of Parliament, your life is going to change,” he assured.

He further disclosed that he started disbursing loans to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the constituency, a move he says has already started yielding dividends.

“Last week, a certain lady asked for an oven and we gave it to her. She’s now been able to expand her business. She’s now been able to bake more bread and life is getting better for her,” he said.

The Ayawaso West Wuogon contest is one of the must-watch seats in the 2020 parliamentary polls with several political pundits, predicting that John Dumelo might be a stiff opponent for the incumbent MP, Lydia Seyram Alhassan.

The New Patriotic Party in a joint National Council and National Executive Committee meeting held on October 21, 2019, unanimously agreed to maintain Hon Lydia Seyram Alhassan in the 2020 Parliamentary election, after she won last year’s by-elections.
