A High Court has ordered the transfer of one of two teenagers accused of murdering an 11-year-old at Kasoa in 2021 to the Nsawam prison until the trial is completed.
At a hearing on Monday, state attorneys had urged the court to grant the order as the accused person had been causing trouble at police cells where he is being held.
The investigator in the case particularly told the court that the accused person had insitigated fights with other inmates at police stations where he had been remanded.
Due to this, prosecutors told the court that officers at the Osu Police Station “made a request that he should not be brought back from the court today.”

“Our prayer this morning is that he should be remanded into prison custody and a warrant issued so that the prison officers would be responsible for bringing him to court as and when the need arises,” said Senior State Attorney, Nana Adoma Osei.
His lawyer, Lawrence Boampong Wireko, however, said he was unaware of the allegations and requested that his client remain in police custody, while emphasizing that the trial was near its conclusion.
But the judge didn’t seem to agree and therefore granted the request by prosecutors.
“In view of the intimation from counsel for the Republic, an order is hereby made for a trial warrant to be issued against the second accused person to be kept at the Nsawam Prison and brought to court as needed. So you will realise that you were in Heaven,” Justice Lydia Osei Marfo said.
The trial is anticipated to end this year since it began three years ago. But for ongoing jurors strike, the court was expected to conclude final addresses, and the return of the jury’s verdict.
