Kotoko, Hearts of Oak Lock Horns in Kumasi Ahead of Super-Clash

Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, two of Ghana's most talked about football clubs, are set to clash in a highly anticipated Premier League match on Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Aduana FC, intensifying the pressure on the team as they prepare to face Asante Kotoko on Sunday in Kumasi.

Kotoko returns to their home ground, drawing inspiration from their hard-fought 3-2 win in the first leg back in December 2023, and aiming to build on that momentum as they move ahead to Sunday’s match.

Asante Kotoko currently sits in 10th place on the league table with 40 points from 30 matches, having experienced a mixed bag of results in their last five games, with two wins, one draw, and two losses.

However, their home form has been a bright spot, amassing 24 points at the Baba Yara Stadium, where they’ve scored 13 goals and conceded just 9. What’s more, they’ve enjoyed a stellar run of form in their last two home league matches, securing back-to-back clean-sheet victories over Legon Cities and FC Samartex 1996.

Hearts of Oak have had an inconsistent run in their last five league games, securing two victories but suffering three defeats. They currently occupy the 12th spot on the table with 38 points from 30 matches. However, their away form has been a highlight, earning 15 points on the road and ranking as the 4th best away team in the campaign.

They’ve scored 13 goals and conceded 16 in their travels. Additionally, they head into this fixture with a boost of confidence, having won their last away match against Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park.

Peter Acquah, Justice Blay, Yahaya Baba, Emmanuel Kotei, Nicholas Bonsu, Serge Eric Zeze, Sherif Mohammed, Shadrack Addo, Kalo Ouattara, Bernard Somuah, Augustine Agyapong, Michael Kyei, Enoch Morrison, Andrews Ntim and Rocky Dwamena are all likely to be available for Asante Kotoko.

Youngster Hamza Issah has banged in 12 league goals for the Phobians this season and is expected to start the match on Sunday with the hope of extending his goal tally.
