Ghanaian playwright and director, Latif Abubakar, has urged all playwrights in Ghana to adopt collaborative measures to support each other to foster the growth of the Ghanaian film sector.
In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, the playwright stated that for the essential growth of the creative industry, creatives must collaborate rather than compete with one another.
“We cannot compete among ourselves, our industry is still young and if we want to grow, we need to join forces. There is a general proverb that says ‘Two heads are better than one’. That is what we have to seek to achieve,” he said.

According to Mr. Abubakar, the creative industry, along with theatre arts, would flourish and be duly acknowledged if creatives shared their expertise and knowledge with one another.
“By collaborating and sharing our expertise, we can create something truly special and take our industry to the next level. Our industry will expand and many people will begin to believe that, theatre is also important instead of always focusing on other units of the creative sector such as music and movies,” he said.
The CEO of Globe Production emphasised that everyone in the industry must actively support and participate in the production and promotion of plays hosted by fellow playwrights.“Therefore, we need to bring everybody together so that whenever our colleagues are hosting plays or productions, we get on board to help with promotion as if it is our production,” he said.
Abubakar suggested the adaptation of international scripts and partnering with others to showcase Ghana’s culture and theatre talent to European audiences, promoting cultural exchange.
Latif Abubakar is a playwright and the chief executive director of Globe Production, a play production house founded in 2009.
