Legal Challenge to KNUST VC’s Reappointment Dismissed

The High Court in Kumasi has dismissed an application that sought to block the extension of tenure of the Vice Chancellor of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

The application, filed by Clement Kofi Ohene Asare, sought to prevent Prof. Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson from commencing her second term as Vice Chancellor, set to begin on August 1, 2024.

Ohene Asare claimed the University failed to follow due process over the re-appointment process.

But the judge overseeing the case at the Kumasi High Court dismissed the application, citing a lack of merit. Justice Frederick Tetteh also questioned the plaintiff’s standing, noting that Mr. Ohene Asare claimed to be an alumnus of the university but failed to provide convincing evidence to support this claim.
