Man in Custody For Allegedly Robbing Former Second Lady Matilda Amissah Arthur, Abu Sakara, Others

A man has been put into prison custody for allegedly orchestrating a series of robberies from last year, targeted at influential people in Ghana, including the wife of former Vice President, Matilda Amissah Arthur.

Yahuza Osuman appeared before an Accra High Court on Tuesday after prosecutors charged him with 26 counts of robbery and money laundering.

The court heard that in the middle of 2023, he targeted former second lady Matilda Amissah Arthur, robbing her of cash sums at her residence at Ridge. Prosecutors accused him of strangling her, repeatedly hitting her head with his gun, and later making away with GH₵28,000, £50, and $2,200 in cash.

Another one of his targets was former CPP flagbearer, Dr. Abu Sakara Foster. Prosecutors said he made a complaint on September 17, 2023, stating that the accused entered his home at the Kaeela Court Apartments, Airport Residential Area, pointing a gun at him and robbing him of cash and Rolex watches.

“CCTV footage from Kaeela Courts Apartments provided by Dr. Abu Sakara Foster on December 4, 2023, aided in identifying the accused. He is also alleged to have carried out other robberies using the same method on businessmen and women in affluent communities, stealing valuables totaling millions of Ghana cedis.

“Among the valuable items allegedly stolen from the victims are two Rolex watches worth $61,000, two Cartier wristwatches worth $19,000, an iPhone 15 Pro Max worth $1,000, jewelry worth $50,000, and more,” state publication the Daily Graphic reported.

Yahuza Osumanu was arrested on December 15, 2023, at Kasoa and will be back in court on May 2, to commerce his trial.
