Man remanded for spreading rumor about shrunken penis at Kasoa

Michael Nelson, 22, has been charged with publication of false news and causing unlawful harm, as prosecutors said his false alarm led to an assault on Safiru Bohari, a nail technician.

A District Court at Awutu Breku has remanded into police custody a 22-year-old electrician for allegedly spreading a false rumor about his shrunken penis.

Michael Nelson, 22, has been charged with publication of false news and causing unlawful harm, as prosecutors said his false alarm led to an assault on Safiru Bohari, a nail technician.

According to prosecutors, Nelson falsely claimed that his penis had shrunk and accused Safiru Bohari as the culprit. This led to Bohari being subjected to severe beatings on Wednesday, March 27, by individuals influenced by Nelson’s allegations.

His prosecution comes after rumors spread this week about missing penises at Kasoa. Reports had claimed that ritualists were behind the incident, and that anytime they touched the genitalia area of a male, the penis of the victim disappeared.

But the Awutu Senya East Municipal Security Council has come to debunk the rumors, warning sanctions against offenders.
