The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has condemned the Electoral Commission’s (EC) move to block their agents from documenting the serial numbers of Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) in the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed concern over the Electoral Commission’s (EC) resistance to their agents recording serial numbers of Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits during the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.
“We are determined to ringfence the threat and risk to the 2024 elections by documenting the serial numbers of each BVR kit that will be used in this registration exercise,” said the NDC National Chairman.
The NDC has posed 35 questions to the EC regarding stolen biometric equipment, but the EC has yet to respond. The party has also petitioned Parliament for an independent investigation into the matter.

“The big question is, what does the EC have to hide? What is their fear over the mere recording of the serial numbers of these BVR kits knowing very well some have been stolen under their watch?” the Chairman asked.
The NDC emphasized that recording serial numbers is a precautionary measure to prevent clandestine registrations and ensure transparency. They pointed out that serial numbers of Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) are recorded on Election Day, and agents of political parties have access to this information.
“If the EC has nothing to hide, they should just allow willing political parties to record the serial numbers of BVR kits during this limited voter registration exercise,” the Chairman said.
The NDC has vowed to continue recording serial numbers, with or without EC approval, to ensure transparency and credibility in the electoral process. They have also called on civil society organizations, chiefs, opinion leaders, and faith-based organizations to demand more transparency and fairness, essential for peaceful elections.
