Netflix Announces New ‘Peaky Blinders’ Film

The film's production is set to begin this year to give fans of the series a new perspective on the conclusion of the award-winning gangster saga.

Netflix has announced a new film adaptation of the popular gangster and crime TV show, “Peaky Blinders.”

The film streaming giants made the announcement via a post on X (formerly Twitter) along with a picture of the script, captioned: Tommy Shelby returns. A Peaky Blinders Film starring Cillian Murphy is coming to Netflix.

Cillian Murphy, known for portraying Robert Oppenheimer and Scare Crow in Oppeinheinmer and the Dark Knight Returns respectively, will reprise his role as Tommy Shelby once more.

“It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me…It is very gratifying to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans, ” the post read.

The film version of  “Peaky Blinders” is written by Steven Knight and directed by Tom Harper, who previously worked on the series. It is currently unknown if the actors who were cast in the television show will be reprising the same roles in the film.

Set in 1919 and 1934, the plot of the series focuses on the exploits of Tommy Shelby, an ambitious crime boss, who leads the notorious Peaky Blinders, a street gang, made up of criminals and gangsters who ruled Birmingham. The gang’s lust for power frequently drove them to engage in violent confrontations with other gangs and authorities. The series began in 2013 and ended in 2022 after six seasons.
