New Domestic Airline Plans to Launch Later This Year

According to an online platform, AviationGhana, the company has already met three out of four certifications required by the aviation authority. To fully operate its airline in Ghana, it would need to include an Air Operator Certificate to those credentials.

A new domestic carrier has set its eyes on launching operations later this year as it nears final certification from the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

GH-Wings, the airline which is founded by Palmer Wesley-Quaison, says it intends to slash airfares of local flights as its way of entering a monopolized market dominated by African World Airlines and Passion Air.

“The country of Ghana has needed a reliable and affordable airline for a long time. We want to give the people a chance to travel without all the hassle and discomfort that we see happening with the current state of the airlines in Ghana,” said Palmer Wesley-Quaison.

AviationGhana sources say that inspectors from the GCAA will be visiting BAA Training Lithuania, the designated training school for GH-Wings, for the Air Training Organisation (ATO) inspection this month. The Air Maintenance Organisation (AMO) inspection will also be conducted next month,” AviationGhana said last Wednesday.

This would not be the first time an airline has expressed interest in operating domestic flights. In 2018, when Passion Air joined African World Airlines as the second domestic carrier, the Ghana Aviation Authority said it was in the process of granting air carrier licenses to more airline companies, including one by Ghanaian football star, Asamoah Gyan.

But since then, none of those airlines have ever gone on the market.
