A new award scheme for the reggae and dancehall music fraternity will be introduced in Ghana, in July 2024.
According to entertainment critic and musician Mr. Logic, the awards scheme dubbed “Reggae Gold Awards,” is an initiative to help revive and revitalize Ghana’s reggae and dancehall genres.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, Mr Logic noted that, the award will be strictly technical and not popularity-based, and will reward authentic reggae and dancehall songs, placing a stronger emphasis on the reggae genre.
Mr. Logic, who played a key role in organizing the Bass Awards, which served a similar purpose some years back, decided to revive the gold awards on realizing that the original organizers had abandoned the project.

“I was just monitoring the organisers of Bass Awards until one of them [Stip] made a post. I have always had this idea. Honestly, I was part of the foundation of Bass Awards,” he said. “When Bass Awards became a bit dormant, I was hoping to jump in, but I wasn’t sure Bulldog and Stip would be coming back with something now until Stip made a post that reggae and dancehall should be annulled,” he added.
He stated that the scheme board will consist of individuals with technical expertise in reggae and dancehall music, rather than just industry acquaintances.
Mr. Logic said the main awards show will follow in November 2024 after the launch in July.
