The National Identification Authority (NIA) has insisted that it will not stop its ‘lawful, proper, necessary, and wholly wholesome’ Ghana Card registration exercise in Pusiga, as described by the Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Dr. Omane Boamah, as a political bias.
Dr Omane believes the NIA intended to assist unqualified voters in the last phase of the Electoral Commission’s registration exercise.
“It is simply to aid illegal voters in the last lap of the voter registration process,” he said.
However, the NIA released a press statement on Wednesday, May 22, rebutting the claims and stressing its dedication to delivering its mandate by ensuring identification for Ghanaian populations, notably those living around the Ghana-Burkina Faso border.

It added that the aim is to streamline border crossings, enable access to public services, and enhance security in the border region.
The (NIA) reiterated its dedication to registering all Ghanaians, both domestically and internationally and providing them with Ghana Cards to promote economic, social, and political progress.
This mission, it emphasized, is a collective effort that goes beyond the NIA’s sole responsibility; it requires collaboration with other stakeholders as mandated by law.
“For the avoidance of doubt, NIA will continue to carry out its mandate of registering Ghanaians in Pusiga and environs aimed at expanding access to the Ghana Card and thereby improving identification and border security in that part of Ghana,” portions of the statement read.
