Nigeria: EFCC Arrests Bobrisky for Naira Abuse

A spokesperson for the Anti-corruption agency, Dele Oyewale, revealed that Bobrisky was arrested for mutilation of the Naira notes and not for his lifestyle as a cross-dresser.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) has arrested and detained controversial Nigerian cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, over abuse of the Nigerian naira, spraying of the naira notes and currency mutilation.

Online reports stated that Bobrisky was invited by the EFCC on Tuesday but turned himself in on Wednesday after he was captured on video spraying new wads of Naira notes at different events.

A spokesperson for the Anti-corruption agency, Dele Oyewale, revealed that Bobrisky was arrested for mutilation of the Naira notes and not for his lifestyle as a cross-dresser.

“It is true our boys arrested him yesterday evening in Lagos for naira abuse. We don’t have anything to do with his lifestyle as a cross-dresser. He was suspected of committing an economic crime and that was the reason for his arrest,” Oyewale said.

The Nigeria Police Force on Tuesday said it could not arrest Bobrisky over calls to arrest the crossdresser because Nigeria has no legitimate law against Crossdressing.

While the investigation into the matter is ongoing, the EFCC has indicated that Bobrisky will face charges in court in due course.
