Nigerian Music Group P-Square Falls Apart Again

According to Rudeboy, his brother, Mr. P, asked him to keep the news away from the tabloids for a while, a request he was not comfortable with, due to the rumors that might label him as a bad person who always wants to go solo.

Nigerian singer and half of the P-Square group, Paul Okoye, also known as Rudeboy, has disclosed that the group is currently defunct.

Speaking in an interview with Lagos-based radio station City FM, Rudeboy revealed that the separation was due to personal agendas and creative differences. He explained that his twin brother, Peter Okoye (Mr. P), sent him a message stating that he was no longer interested in the group.

“He sent me a message that he was no longer interested. He told me to my face that he wants to quit,” Paul said confirming the split.

“I asked if we could make it public and he refused. But what will happen when I go solo? When I go solo, they will call me a bad person that’s why I need to start speaking so the fans can know what’s going on,” he explained.

The “Audio Money” singer said he wants to resume his own career since he has written over 200 songs waiting to be released.

“I just want to resume my career as Rudeboy. I have over 200 songs just lying there,” he added.

In 2017, P-Square had a fallout that led to a bitter break up with the brothers going their separate ways to pursue solo careers. The duo announced that they were back as a group and celebrated their reunion with a concert in Lagos, where they apologized to their fans.

They followed this up with two singles, “Jaiye” and “Find Somebody”, which were supposedly tracks off the duo’s new album, scheduled to be released after their reunion.

“The plan of our coming back together was going to produce a lot of hit albums. But as it is now, I’m just focusing on Rudeboy. Trust me, it is not everything that I would want to say,” he said.

“I was being accused of saying that he (Peter) was the dancer and I’m the singer. Whenever we go to the airport, people ask are you a singer or a dancer? I didn’t know it was touching him. But I know there was a time we came together and I said, ‘Don’t allow this thing get to you, you should be proud of what you’re doing. That’s the role you’re playing.”
