Additionally, Mahama revealed that the party intends to reform the Student Loan Trust Fund, to enable continuing students to directly access student loans to cover their university fees.

The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has announced his plans to waive academic fees for first-year public tertiary students in Ghana.

Launching the Youth Manifesto of the NDC Youth Wing on Aug 12, 2024, in Accra, John Mahama said the initiative is designed to ease the financial pressure on families, ensuring that the cost of education no longer stands in the way of their children’s future.

“We will implement a no-fees stress program to alleviate the financial burden on parents and students in financing tertiary education. We will implement a no academic fees policy at the university for level 100 students,” Mahama said.
